The Story
Close to my heart.
My wife is a BRCA2 gene carrier and was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in 2011.
The disease was only identified following an invitation to join Southampton Uni Genetics programme for tests, as a blood sample was donated by her Mum in 1999.
In 2010 the BRCA2 gene was found.
After a year of treatment, followed by a Oophorectomy & then a DIEP - double mastectomy with reconstruction she remains fit and well.
My youngest daughter, who is also a BRCA2 gene carrier, has now taken the Preventative Action and has the same DIEP operation, so very brave.
Hence it’s my turn to do my bit to make people BRCA2 Aware, as gene carriers are 80% more susceptible to developing the disease.
On July 18th, I’m cycling for 14 days from Rome to Sicily (arriving on August 1st) - a total of 650 miles. All to raise money for Breast Cancer Uk.
Please could I ask you to support my cause, as they say "every little helps".
